Abstract

This paper presents the design and optimization of a transversal waveguide to microstrip transition operating from 170-200 GHz. The proposed design mixer employs a probe transition with a quartz substrate of thickness 100 µm and simulation was carried out using 3D electromagnetic simulator HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator). Simulated results shows performance better than 17 dB and insertion loss less than 0.5 dB over the entire operating frequency range for back to back configuration. Moreover higher modes propagation along the microstrip line has also been pushed out of the operating band by optimizing the housing of microstrip line which is useful for the integration of transition with RF subsystems.
