Abstract

Using latest technology a smart stick is designed that assists the visually challenged people to getting around easily. The smart stick is incorporated with ultrasonic sensor, light sensor as well as and water sensor. The present work employs an ultrasonic sensor which identifies any obstruction ahead with the help of ultrasonic waves. The obstacles are sensed by the sensor and this information is sent to the Arduino Uno which then processes the above data and estimates if the obstruction is nearby. If the obstruction is close the Arduino Uno sends a warning in the form of sound. It also senses water and sounds a different tone which alerts the blind. The stick consists of a vibrator which vibrates indicating a warning that the obstacle is close.  Additional feature includes that while walking a light is illuminated for others to become aware of.
