Abstract

Laboratory equipment are expensive that is why it should be stored in a secured place. At Colegio De Sebastian, the laboratory equipment are exposed due to the lack of security in the laboratory rooms. The laboratory were sometimes left open that may lead to unnecessary use of equipment and electricity.  To solve the issues stated, the researcher designed a Laboratory Instruction Schedule-based Biometrics Technology: Door and Electrical Activation. The researcher utilized a solenoid lock installed in the laboratory door, a fingerprint scanner for the registration of employees, and a schedule verification for the faculty member.  The data of every authorized person to use the laboratory was recorded in the system and stored in MySQL database. Relay modules were used in controlling the electrical auxiliaries inside the laboratory. The researcher applied the descriptive method in collecting data needed in the study in gaining knowledge about the current state of the institution, through the help of the gathered data, unstructured interview and observation during practicum.  In developing the device, the researcher used a prototype methodology it can undergo to changes in the design and flow if any necessary improvement was needed.  Prototype methodology is suitable in developing a system and a product. Based on the test results, the Digital Persona 4000b passed all the criteria needed in the project.  Having a dry thumb increases the accuracy rate of each generated template produced by the fingerprint scanner. Upon verification, the device can recognize the level of access of the user, furthermore, it can check the schedule if the user allowed to use the laboratory and activate electrical auxiliaries’ based on level of access. Based from the results of the study the research suggest to implement the system and add additional features to improve the design of the system.
