Abstract

Among all the factors in an economy the tourism industry plays a major role in the growth of an economy. The tourism industry succeeds in particular location mainly because of the demographic profile of a country. Health care facilities Temples are the major attractive factor for Tamilnadu tourism industry.  The demographic characteristics of women travelers create certain perception towards tourism in their mind. This study considers different perception such as tourism as an opportunity for, learning, meeting people from different cultures, knowing different cultures, career development, self-development, relaxing and pleasure seeking. Women tourists in Madurai region perceive mainly tourism as relaxing and pleasure seeking activity. These perceptions influence the choice elements (CE) like Safety, Easily reached, Cleanliness, Quality of accommodation, Cultural Diversity, Shopping while selecting travel destination. If the tourism industry concentrates on providing these choice elements in the expected way it will facilitate growth in tourism as well as economy.
