Abstract

In this study, a brief review of different nanosized composite particles, their processing techniques and application oriented characterization is reported. The emphasis is given to metal-metal and metal-ceramics nanocomposite particles. It was observed from the recently reported literature, that the commonly and precisely used synthesis techniques by researchers are chemical processing laboratory techniques. Some researchers have applied mechanical processing also, such as ball mill method, to obtained nanoparticles, but with non-uniform particle size. Synthesized nanocomposite particles can be characterized for some properties; such as physical (XRD, FTIR), thermal (DSC, TGA), microstructural (SEM, TEM), but mechanical properties cannot be evaluated. It was concluded that, Alumina-Zirconia is the most commonly nanocomposite particles practiced by researchers for engineering applications and sol-gel is the most frequently applied technique to obtain the nanocomposite particles.
