Abstract

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas is usually used as a process gas in chemical industries, research laboratories and deuterium oxide plant. Humans could be exposed to H2S from their working and living places. The human tolerance limit towards exposure to H2S is around 10 ppm for eight hours and beyond this end in neurological damages and fatal accidents can occur (WHO, 2003). Hence, there's a requirement to monitor H2S gas within the ppm level with suitable, affordable gas sensor. In this paper, the developments in electrochemical sensors for H2S detections were reviewed with respect to various sensor materials and their structure.  The important sensing parameters like, concentration in ppm, selectivity, response and recovery time, sensitivity and operating temperature for various sensor materials are summarized and tabulated to provide a  radical performance comparision.
