Abstract

Traffic monitoring is a popular research topic due to the rapid growth of metropolis road network. With the tremendous growth of population and automobiles, traffic density monitoring and controlling in and around a city has been a complex task. Congestion in traffic is a serious problem nowadays. From city roads to highways, a lot of traffic problems occur everywhere in today’s world. Bad traffic management leads to wastage of lot of man hours. Frequent traffic problems like traffic jams have led to the rise of the need for an efficient traffic management method. The most essential part of traffic control is traffic density estimation in a particular region. Conventional traffic monitoring and estimating systems overcome a huge number challenges. The main objective is to comprehensively study the existing methods and to classify them. This article also briefs about the merits and demerits of various methods in traffic density estimation. Finally outcome of this work concluded with various research directives.
