Abstract

India is a land of agriculture where more than 60% of India’s land is agriculture land. The Indian economy is highly based on agriculture. Proper Irrigation and plant protection form diseases play results in producing good crops. Manual irrigation and plants health inspection is a tough task for farmers. Under-irrigation, over-irrigation, plant diseases may destroy the crops partially or completely. Moreover, the world is going through a global energy crisis. This motivated us to develop an automatic irrigation system powered by solar panel having plant disease detection feature. The main aim is to design a practically implementable, low electricity consuming, water saving irrigation system that can increase crops yield. The proposed system relays the soil moisture level as well as motor status in timely manner. The system uses Arduino Uno board equipped with ATmega328 microcontroller. The system provides proper irrigation by driving solar powered water pumpswirelessly using a software stack called Android that is used in mobile devices. The system detects the types of plant diseases utilizing K-mean segmentation process in MATLAB.  This system will assist the plant to have maximum growth and farmer to have better yield without frequently visiting the fields.
