Effectiveness Of STP On Knowledge Regarding Hazards Of Smoking İn Adolescents
Abstract
Background: - Due to Cigarette smoking yearly death rate is nearly about 420,000. Adolescents are knowing regarding the adverse effects on their health due to exposure to environmental tobacco smoke include increased risk for asthma induction and, acute lower respiratory tract infections, therefore, there is a need to identify relevant factors with smoking among adolescents in order to better health interventions for preventing smoking.
Methodology, :- In present study one group pre test post test design was used with Evaluative approach to assess the effectiveness of STP on knowledge regarding hazards of smoking among adolescents. Sample size 60 adolescents were selected for the study by simple random sampling technique from selected schools of Karad Taluka . The adolescents at age group 15-16 years, and those who are willing to participate during data collection were included . Collection of data was done by using structured Questionnaire on demographic profile of the adolescents, And Knowledge Questionnaire on hazards of smoking in adolescents. As per objectives of the study data analyses by using descriptive and inferential statistic. Result: Result reveals that in major finding. In pre-test the mean score was 7.5 with standard deviation ± 1.112 and the post-test mean score was 16.71 with standard deviation ±2.026. This show the adolescents gained their knowledge adequately on hazards of smoking The knowledge score of adolescents increased by 9.21 units. The variability around the mean of knowledge distribution (SD) is o.914 units. The range between the maximum and minimum score is decreased by 9 units after introducing structured teaching program. The results shows that, there post-test score was significantly increased. The gain in knowledge is significant (t = 31.54) calculated value is higher than table value, hence research hypothesis is accepted. Therefore finding reveals that the structured teaching programme on hazards of smoking in adolescents was effective. Conclusion:. The structured teaching programme is a effective educational method to increase knowledge of a students on hazards of smoking. With this we can reduce the no of smoking, to avoid new smokers and also to improve the life expectations.
