Abstract

A Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork (MANET) is a network which doesn’t requires infrastructure. MANETs consists of several wireless nodes and it will make temporary set up connection among the neighbour nodes. The dynamic structure of MANET makes network in to challenging as well as vulnerable for several kinds of attacks by establishing a secure route between nodes. Trust is an important aspect of Mobile Ad-hoc networks and trust mechanisms are used in routing protocols on a network to find a secure route in a best way. There are various approaches present to compute trust for a node such as a fuzzy trust approach, trust management approach, and hybrid approach etc., MANET is used in many applications, mostly used for military and emergency areas like cyclone and natural disaster affected ones where there is no proper communication channel available. MANETs requires a higher level of trust in forwarding the packet to their respective destination. So, each node should forward packets only to the trusted node.  In this paper, we discuss the detailed survey on various trust management approaches in MANETs. We highlightthe summary and comparison of these approaches for establishing trust among the participating nodes in a dynamic structured way.
