Scientific Black Spot Studies and Analysis in Uttara Kannada District Road Network
Abstract
Black-spot analysis and treatment is a routine and methodical identification of hazardous road locations in the road system. It is part of a remedial process that aims to develop appropriate and cost-effective treatments for specific locations in terms of geometrics of road. In this paper, we focus on two types of road network, which consist of non – signalized intersections and curves. This paper analyses some of the road networks in Uttara Kannada District of Karnataka. The procedure described is based on recorded accidents, data about accidents and also traffic volume count. The entire study area is studied and possible betterments are suggested and is modelled in VISSIM software, which involves inputting the vehicle data, geometrical requirements, traffic volume details for extracting the absolute results. Finally, the evaluation of the proposed remedies will be simulated using VISSIM software.
