Academic Stress among Under Graduate College Students: A Study in Charaideo District, Assam

Abstract

Abstract:  The students face multiple problems in their life. There are various pressure and demands from themselves and society too, such as study pressure and career decisions, identity issues etc. If stress becomes too excessive, prolonged and frequent, various mental and physical illnesses may develop. The intent of the study was to find if there exists academic stress among under graduate college students. Further, this study was also conducted to understand if their gender wise and semesters wise differences in academic stress of under graduate students of Charaideo district. Academic stress scale or questionnaire was used as a tool for this study and 400 male and female under graduate students are selected as a sample of study with the help of purposive sampling technique. The result found that there is no significant difference between male and female as well as 2nd and 6th semester under Graduate college students of Charaideo District. The result also shows that tests, difficulty understanding content, time demand, assignments, career and future success etc. are the main sources of academic stress among Under Graduate college students.
