Abstract

In recent days, Television (TV) broadcast technology has made a revolution in Direct-to-home (DTH) services, usage of DTH has increased drastically. Generally, Viewers spend money as a subscription charge to DTH services to view their favourite channels. Problem with the DTH subscription is that the viewers will never watch Television all channels and for the whole day, i.e. 24/7. The viewers are paying for the channels they never watch since it is part of the package. In this paper, we have proposed a cost-effective Viewing Time (VT) based Set-Top box (STB) subscription application to minimize the subscription amount. A cloud-based application is developed to monitor the channels viewed by the viewer and charged only for the Time that the channels are considered. This application may help the channels to improve the quality of the programme to reach a more significant number of users. Using this Cloud-based application, Television Rating Point (TRP) can be monitored and analyzed that reduces the bandwidth and reduction in the cost of service. Further, the recent developments in web series telecast also included in a single platform (TBD-DSTB). A detailed survey has been done with users of various age group through google forms for knowing their preference further their results are analyzed.
