Changing The Elderly Healthy Behaviour To Coastal Malay Culture In The Village Durian District Pantai Labu Regency Of Deli Serdang Year 2018

Abstract

Culture how people view in changing behavior. Health is essential for everyone including the elderly. To change unhealthy behavior to be required a proper way or step. In coastal Malay communities prohibit elderly eating nutritious meal, not allowed to leave the house, activities without being accompanied by family because it will be troublesome family, and become a burden for the community, it is necessary a strong intention to change the healthy behavior of a person including the elderly. The purpose of this research is to know the "healthy behavior change of the elderly to coastal Malay culture so that the intention to develop elderly health status in Desa Duriang District Labu Beach Deli Serdang District Year 2018. This study used a type of quantitative study, Quasi-experimental design approach of Non-Equivalent Control Group, which compares the results of coastal intervention in the community to changes in healthy promotive behavior by using intervention groups and control groups. The population is the entire elderly in the village of Durian with a total sampling technique whereby the entire population is sampled as much as 120 respondents. The research is done in two phases, namely the first lasting in May-June 2018, data collection in a qualitative way to prepare questionnaires. The second stage is July – December 2018 through a quantitative approach.  Analytical techniques using Wilcoxon test analysis and Mann Whitney test test. Based on the results of this study there was a change in the healthy senior promotive behaviour of the coastal Malay culture so that the intention of improving the health status, statistical test results between the intervention group and the control group in the test data analysis Wilkoxon control group 7.33 and the intervention group increased to 11.35 with Mann Whitney Test obtained the significance of 0.004 (P < 0.05). The conclusion of this research has a significant difference in the change in healthy promotive behavior between group intervention and control group, in suggesting to elderly families in order to provide good information about healthy promotive behavior, this can improve the elderly health status, so that it can bring family burden and benefit to society.
