Abstract

Power quality is a primary issue in electrical distribution side. To diminish the power quality issues a UPQC can be used as one of the mitigation technique and the UPQC is a mixture of one shunt & one Series Active Power filters with its own control technique, and it can be connected at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) to improve PQ which is simulated using synchronous reference frame (SRF) Theory. The SRF theory generates the reference signal for both active power filters.  The UPQC can be understood with the design of two voltage source inverters (VSI) which are connected back to back to a DC Capacitor. A UPQC with robust control method is used for solving the major PQ problems like Voltage fluctuations and harmonics present in the system due to Power electronic equipment’s, fault occurred and unbalanced loads  using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
