Shipping lines has significant influence on environment and health of international community. Hence, shipping activities contribute to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions significantly, such as CO2, NOx, SOx, as well as other pollutants. In addition, clean and renewable energy, seafarer education and training, women participation, welfare and decent work are also issues in relation to sustainability in the shipping industry. A leading shipping line, M has been chosen as a case study. Through in-depth examination of IMO’s and M’s sustainable development strategies, this paper analyzes the sustainable development system being implemented by M, points out its merit and demerit, and finally offers feasible suggestions, such as strengthening employees' awareness of sustainable development, updating hardware and software using advanced technologies, increasing information transparency and extending the officer development chain to MET institutes.
