Abstract

Automatic three phase selector is designed to select a working phase automatically during failure of a phase. It is designed to achieve automation in phase changing in case of fault in one or two phases in order to give uninterrupted power supply to a single phase load as well as to protect the appliances from poor supply. In case of three phase fault the power supply to load is done by battery. In this paper the automatic phase selector is designed based on the priority selection. Arduino is used for interfacing the logic circuit with the relay. A set of instruction as ‘Arduino programming language(based on wiring) is send to the Arduino after processing it in the Arduino software(IDE). As per the coding instruction respective relays gets turned on for the available phase selection. Since most single phase loads are inductive in nature, power factor improvement is also done using the additional capacitor banks which result in the increment of Power system efficiency. The power factor can be improved upto 0.9485.
