Abstract

Sustainable Livelihood and its importance are being taught and also spoken very often worldwide. Yet what we see is the deterioration of the nature and its resources everywhere. Hence just teaching about sustainable livelihood methods is not sufficient. It is indeed of prime importance to practice them while teaching especially to the freshmen in Engineering Education. Incorporating this ideology into a freshman’s mind in the stage of learning is as important as teaching them the life lessons, as it is working towards the sustainability of the world, nature and its resources. To refine their ideology and help them to create a pathway to learn and practice in more sustainable methods, various sustainable approaches were incorporated in their curriculum. Many skills like carpentry, tin smithy, modelling, Rapid Prototyping etc., are being taught to the freshmen, which require extensive practice by hand in producing lots of scraps. This research show-case more susceptible and sustainable methods of practicing these trades which not only just imparts skills to the freshmen but also makes them understand the importance of Sustainable and Green Practice.
