Abstract

Bangalore has witnessed a huge growth in its ever-growing population; major deaths that befell pedestrians were caused while they were crossing the road. In this study, an analytical methodology for the calculation of pedestrian feasibility is proposed. The proposal relies on data collected during pedestrian feasibility inspection. The objectives are to carry out the studies regarding the pedestrian facilities in the selected areas of Bangalore and to suggest the improvement measures for the pedestrians after studying their characteristics through various surveys and carrying out analysis in VISSIM software. The study proposes a pedestrian micro-simulation-based approach for preparing pedestrian facilities and also includes questionnaire survey on street vendors. The strategy proposed could have a significant impact on the pedestrian safety and could be used in decision-making processes to improve the safety of existing pedestrians.
