Abstract

The BW-Export model is a teaching model specifically designed to practice critical thinking skills. This study aims to develop a valid, practical, and effective BW-Export model to improve the critical thinking skills of high school students. The design of this study uses Education Design Research in three stages namely: preliminary studies, model planning and development, and model testing. The instrument model was validated by three experts in science education and analyzed using a percentage of agreement. The model design uses a qualitative approach. The trial design model is limited and extensive, using one group pre-test and post-test design. Research subjects were 25 students of class XII in limited trials, and 62 students in extensive trials in the city of Ternate (Indonesia). Data were collected using: critical thinking skills tests, observation sheets of teaching implementation, student questionnaire responses, and interview instruments. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and paired t-test. The results showed that the BW-Export model consisted of five syntaxes: problem identification, data processing, the process of following up on writing an experimental report, elaborating, and evaluating the process and thinking skills, met the criteria: valid, practical, and effective so that it was feasible to use to improve the critical thinking skills of high school students.
