City Resilience to Respond Climate Change and Disaster

Abstract

City resilience is a topic that has emerged following up the issue of sustainable development. The changes in the environment, economy and social of urban areas are rapid and uncertain. One aspect of resilience that is highlighted in the management of urban areas is related to the ability of a city to absorb, adapt, and respond the interrelated problems of urban climate change and disaster. Malang as the second largest city in East Java has become the epicenter of urbanization with all urban dynamics. To measure the capacity of city resilience in Malang, it is significant to scan the existing environment and to formulate policies and planning interventions that will strengthen the resilience of the city which are able to provide solutions for various climate change and disaster related problems.
