Reconfigurable Microstrip Antennas Embedded with Electronic Switch, PIN Diode

Abstract

In the fast-growing technology, a reconfigurable antenna with PIN diodes as switching elements provides solution for multi band operations.  These reconfigurable antennas present various advantages in terms of multiband tuneable capabilities with Tx/Rx isolation, out of band isolation, lower cost and light weight.  PIN diode provides lower parasitics in switching application and thus makesit a more attractive alternative at high frequencies.This paper presents a review of variousreconfigurable microstrip printed circuit antennas using PIN diode as control element.  The classification of antennashas been presented on the basis of reconfigurable features.  Various researches forreconfigurability in frequency, radiation pattern, polarisation and the combination of either of the above have been listed and compared in this paper.
