Abstract

One of the major contributions to the success of Intelligent Transportation System is Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANETs). Due to the extremely dynamic topology of VANET along with large number of mobile nodes, providing continuous connectivity between nodes is the main challenge An immense variety of research has been done till date to develop routing protocols and standards for VANET. For the heterogeneous networks, which combines cellular network with DSRC, is being widely used offering advantages of lower latency, higher data rates and wide range of communication This research paper aims at  proposing an optimized routing scheme for VANET heterogeneous networks to improve its performance in terms of Packet Delivery Ratio, delay and throughput parameters. The focus of this work is to propose a better and optimized version of currently existing routing protocols for VANETs namely AODV, DSDV and OLSR protocols to make the protocols work better and more efficient in urban scenario.
