A Novel Image Enhancement Method for Fog Affected Indoor and Outdoor Images.

Abstract

The pictorial information can be obtained from any images using various operations defined in image processing field. Among this Image enhancement plays an important role. This paper deals with the processing of Fog affected indoor and outdoor images. It is a single image dehazing process. Taking in account of the past works, most of the researchers were concentrated on outdoor environment only less had done for indoor environment. The proposed image enhancement method is performed using DCP to remove the fog content from the image then combining CLAHE and DCT to enhance the pictorial information. On decomposing the dehazed image into low frequency and high frequency components using DCT, the high frequency components are discarded due to the presence of noise inherently within it. The low frequency components are sharpened and used for further processing. At the end an enhanced image is produced by the fusing the CLAHE and DCT images. Qualitative analysis is performed by considering several performance parameters.
