An Integrated Converter for PEVs with Emergency Power Backup for Residential Application

Abstract

A multifunctional on-board battery charger is proposed in this paper. The  different modes of oeration required in an electric vehicle like plug-in charging, propulsion, regenerative braking and gives an emergency power backup for residential use performed by the charger. The system adopts an integrated converter topology using Cuk converter which has numerous advantages to EV application considering size and weight constraints. The proposed system is suitable for on-board charging of PEVs and the feature of emergency power backup shows its reliability in Indian power scenario with future approach of EVs. Pertinent results are achieved through MATLAB Simulink simulations and the feasibility has been validated with hardware prototype.
