Abstract

With the advent of real time applications, latency becomes a key parameter and with the large amount of data which comes in for processing in IoT, the processing and computation shifted from entirely on cloud to partially on edge networks and partially on cloud. Thus fog computing emerged which processes data near point of generation. Since the fog devices themselves have limited capacity and may be in heterogeneous or homogeneous environments, scheduling of incoming tasks to appropriate fog devices with attention to computational offloading and priority of tasks becomes necessary to reduce latency. Another factor which comes into picture is energy efficiency because most fog devices are battery operated so even if they have the computational capacity they might not have the energy capacity to support it. This paper analyses and summarises certain algorithms for scheduling in fog environments.
