Abstract

A radio transmitter produceradio waves with the help of antennas. While the hardware radio involves the usage of filters, mixers, modulators/demodulators, amplifiers, etc., the Software-Defined Radio (SDR) implements all these functionalities with the help of software on an embedded system. Few modules like IF up/down conversion and signal processing tasks are performed using FPGA. These FPGAs must manage intensive process and operations resulting in high power consumption. The required power consumption could be either static, dynamic or interface-based and needs to be considered while designing an SDR system. The data for communication is encoded with multiple carrier frequencies using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing technique (OFDM). They should cope with severe channel conditions at the same time requires many RF power amplifiers with high-power ratio. The proposed work aims at presenting a framework for efficient implementation of modified Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) encoding and decoding techniques. The result shows reduced power consumption at higher data rate. The whole system is implemented in MATLAB which shows us the performance improvement with the proposed SDR structure.
