Abstract

A new multi-objective BAT algorithm (MO-BAT) has been used in this research work for optimizing the Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) process parameters. In this investigation, experiments were performed by taking into consideration the effect of three process parameters such as peak current, pulse off time, gap voltage. Experiments were planned by Response Surface Methodology (RSM) of Box-Behnken design (BBD) type. In this investigation En19 alloy has been machined by EDM. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to find significant process parameters affecting responses such as Material Removal Rate (MRR) and Surface Roughness (SR). In order to predict the output responses, some empirical model has been fitted by RSM. The adequacy and accuracy of these fitted models were investigated by normal plot of residuals. 3-D plots have been obtained from RSM and this revealed the relationship between response and two other process parameters. Pareto front diagram in MO-BAT showed different process parameters setting for maximizing MRR and minimizing SR.
