Developing the Ability to Solve Mathematical Problems by Learning Management with the SSCS Model Together with Drawing the Bar Model of Primary 3 (Grade 3) Students

Abstract

The purpose of this research were to: 1) compare the ability to solve mathematical problems of Primary 3 (Grade 3) students between before and after learning management with the SSCS model together with drawing the bar model, 2) compare the ability to solve mathematical problems of Primary 3 (Grade 3) students between before and after learning management by using traditional methods, and 3) compare the ability to solve mathematical problems of Primary 3 (Grade 3) students between the group of students learning management with the SSCS model together with drawing the bar model and another group of students learning management by using traditional methods. The samples of this research were 60 Primary 3 (Grade 3) students in the second semester of academic year 2019 at Wat Aiyikaram School, Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani Province. The research instruments were the SSCS model together with drawing the bar model lesson plans, traditional lesson plans and mathematics problem solving ability test. The statistics used for data analysis were mean, standard deviation and t - test. The research finding were as following: 1) the ability to solve mathematical problems of Primary 3 (Grade 3) students after learning management with the SSCS model together with drawing the bar model was significantly higher than before learning management at the .05 level, 2) the ability to solve mathematical problems of Primary 3 (Grade 3) students after learning management by traditional methods was significantly higher than before learning management at the .05 level, and 3) the ability to solve mathematical problems of Primary 3 (Grade 3) students learning management with the SSCS model together with drawing the bar model was significantly higher than another group of students learning management by traditional methods at the .05 level.
