Structural Analysis of Micro-Pillars for Particle Separation in Microfluidic Devices
Abstract
Deterministic Lateral Displacement is a passive technique used to separate particles based on size and shape in continuous flow. It uses a specific arrangement of pillars within a channel to control the trajectory of the particles. In this paper, the importance of structural analysis is to enhance the separation of particles. The three-dimensional structure of micro-pillar of different shapes has been analyzed and also studied the effect of change in the velocity of fluid flow on the deformation of micro-pillars. The two parameters, displacement and curl displacement, helps to understand the amount of deformation that a pillar can withstand. The result of displacement and curl displacement shows a similar pattern, where their values decrease as the pillar diameter and height is increased.
