Assessment of Attitude of Graduated Youth towards Entrepreneurship

Abstract

Entrepreneurship is of immense importance in today’s world. Entrepreneurship can be defined as the process of planning, propelling and running a business, which is usually a first initiative by a person. The person who makes these initiative is called as an entrepreneur. There are a number of Entrepreneurship Development Programs and other activities initiated by the Government and other NGOs in order to eradicate the problem of unemployment and underemployment faced by millions of youth in our country today. But the problem is lack of an initiative or intention to become an entrepreneur or it is called as an Entrepreneurial Intention (EI). EI is a conscious effort and intention and effort made by a person to start a new venture and thereby contribute to country’s wealth. This study focusses on assessing Entrepreneurial Intention of a number of youth in our society. For this we have taken a sample of 150 graduated youth through Entrepreneurial Intention Questionnaire (EIQ) in which they were given a prescribed set of standardized questions and collected responses. This questionnaire also analyzed gender wise differences in choosing an entrepreneurial career and also probable barriers faced by a graduated young people to step up into entrepreneurship. The data was analyzed using correlation analysis and chi-square test. The outcome have shown a clear depiction of high interest and intention towards entrepreneurship by graduated youth but there exists certain factors that inhibits them such as lack of funding, lack of business skill, fear of future financial security etc.
