Significant Role of Port Operations in Supply Chain Management: A Global Study

Abstract

In the world of globalization where international trade is rapidly increasing, these ports plays vital role for the flow of goods and information. The ports and its management is increasing due to the rapid rise of international trade. Thus the dependence of port effectiveness is increasing on the external coordination and supply chain. Thus ports are the cluster of various organization in which involves transport operators and logistics. The ports are important as they serves supply chain management in the way by providing value added services, multi model transport system with variety of options, logistics centre operations, supply chain patterns and process.  This paper outlines the parameters of Port integration with supply chain management and analyzes the new role of ports in global logistics. The significant role of ports has been examined by reviewing the existing research on this topic. A model of parameters has been discussed and implications of maritime logistics are also inferred.
