AN EMPIRICAL STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF CYBERCRIME THROUGH CYBER BULLYING

Abstract

Cyber bullying is a form of harassment. The victim is contacted through electronic means of communication to threaten, or invade a person’s privacy. This leaves a long lasting impact. It is using beyond the permissible limit or unauthorized use of electronic technology affecting the life and reputation of another. The researcher has tried to introduce the concept cyber bullying, its effects and the possible consequences. Focus has also been given to understand the remedies available under Criminal Laws and Information Technology Act, and also the ways to prevent itThis is an empirical study wherein the major focus was on the prevalence of cyberbullying, a form of cybercrime in India. The methods of the study are analytical, descriptive and comparative. The research is applied and quantitative in nature. Data Collection was done using both primary and secondary sources. Questionnaire method was employed to collect the primary data for the survey. The types of questions asked in the survey were fixed alternative i.e., the respondents had to choose from specific set of answers. The secondary data has been collected from books, journals, articles and e-sources. The survey was conducted in the High Court of Madras, Chennai and the Express Avenue Mall, Chennai among individuals from various socioeconomic backgrounds to trace the awareness of respondents regarding cyberbullying and the primary victims of cyberbullying. A random of 72 samples have been selected from the study area to analyse the prevalence of cyberbullying in India. For the present study, a survey was conducted on each issue in the study area. Cross Tabulation and Percentage method has been used to determine the responses of the samples. Chi-Square test has been used to determine the hypothesis.
