A STUDY ON MARKET FOR GPS UNITS IN INDIA

Abstract

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based navigation system that determines the location through the receiving unit on Earth with the help of constellations of satellites. GPS satellites revolve around the earth in a precise orbit, transmitting coded radio signals. The GPS market has a potential for growth in the mere future. Digital technology plays a great role in helping business and in particular small business, in the Asian region. In this context, the purpose of this study is to analyse the market for GPS units in India and its applicability in various sectors for economic development. Simple Random Sampling method is used to collect data with sample size of 1104. Chi square is used to examine the association between occupational pattern and level of education of respondents and the growing market for GPS units in India. It is observed that the demand for GPS units in the market depends on the occupation and the potential for GPS navigation market depends on the respondents’ educational qualification. The government should take more initiative in reducing the issues regarding the violation of privacy and enhance awareness about the benefits of using GPS technology to the people in remote areas.
