The Study on Role of Psycho-Social Factors in Insomnia Among Indian Youth Population

Abstract

Insomnia relates to the problem of hyperarousal among individuals  along with issues related to initiating and maintaining sleep at night time and daytime hypervigilance. Insomnia is primarily a psychosomatic issue. Different environmental, social and psychological elements contribute towards insomnia among the youth. Different examinations have expressed that youngsters suffer from insomnia because of their work environment and operational conditions. Anyway a lacuna exists when it comes to examining psycho social elements. Researchers have proposed diverse treatment plans for insomnia among youth populace overlooking the lacunae in the reasons or factors prompting insomnia. Therefore this research is carried out with aim to identify how  psycho social factors contribute towards insomnia among Indian Youth population. The study is carried out with the help of a convenient sampling method. The sample size is 276 drawn from a sample frame that includes schools and psychiatric clinics. The statistical tools used for the purpose of deriving results are complex graphs, independent t test, Pearson correlation and Maan Whitney U test. It could be found out that the level of sensitivity among patients of insomnia is high. The is a mild difference between high level of sensitivity and low level. The level of uncertainty among patients of insomnia is high. The level of threat anticipation among patients of insomnia is high. The study was able to infer that the case of drug induced insomnia amongst female population is relatively low when compared to male population. The same applies to high level insomnia as well. The study concludes that the problem of insomnia among college students is due to  the role of psycho social factors. The role of psycho social factors towards developing insomnia varies with the type. The role of psycho social factors towards developing insomnia varies with significantly with age as well.
