Abstract

Al metal matrix has a wide range of applications like automobile, aerospace, defence industries etc., due to its good properties like high tensile strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, thermal conductivity, hardness etc., due to their low strength it finds its drawback in order to overcome this drawback we add reinforcement like SiC, Zr etc., adding reinforcement to the Al MMC leads to improved mechanical properties. Among many reinforcements we use SiC due to its desired characteristics like strong material, wettability etc. the aim is to combine the matrix and reinforcement so as to form a MMC and get desirable attributes. This review paper is concentrated on the behaviour of Aluminium alloys with SiC reinforcement which are produced by stir casting method. SiC % are varied with the Al alloy and the casted materials are machined according to ASTM standards. The machined materials then tested for tensile, hardness, wear resistance and other mechanical properties were tested.
