Abstract

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is one of the efficient measures to cut the NOx formation and emission through exhaust of engines. EGR was primarily used for compressed ignition or diesel engines. EGR works by circulating back the small amount of exhausts from engine to the cylinders of engines [2]. The aim of routing back exhaust gases back into the engine is to make use of the very high heat energy in exhaust gases. EGR basically dilutes N2 gases and provides inert gases for combustion such as CO2. These inert gases absorb heat of combustion and decrease the highest temperatures reached in cylinder.

Proposed strategy involves carrying out the test on 1.4ltr naturally aspirated Tata Indica engine. It involves design of diameter of exhaust gas recirculation pipe, installing it on engine and taking reading at different throttles.
