Comparitive Analysis of Erosion Resistance of Laser Hardened and WC-Co-Cr Based HVOF Coated 13 Cr 4Ni Martensitic Stainless Steel

Abstract

Bare samples of 13 Cr 4Ni martensitic stainless steel along with WC-Co-Cr based HVOF coated 13 Cr 4Ni martensitic stainless steel and Laser hardened 13 Cr 4Ni martensitic stainless steel specimens were compared for their erosion resistance by conducting air jet erosion test. The test samples after erosion were studied to analyze the mode of erosion by micro structural analysis. From the analysis it was found that WC-Co-Cr based HVOF coated 13 Cr 4Ni martensitic stainless steel showed minimum erosion at all the angles of impingement i.e. 450 and 900 as compared to bare samples of 13 Cr 4Ni martensitic stainless and Laser hardened 13 Cr 4Ni martensitic stainless steel specimens.
