Abstract

The techniques of environmental friendly turning of materails have been realized in the past in order to eliminate/reduce the problems linked with traditional cutting fluids. In recent years lot of significant work has been communicated by researchers on the use of minimum quantity lubrication(MQL),texturing on  the top/rake surface of the cutting insert, use of solid lubricants with textured tools and use of different environmental friendly methods with textured tools. The current work is related to explore the significant pool of research work related to these tool surface modification techniques to understand the key issues related with performance enhancement in turning process. The review shows that the use of surface texturing on the rake surface along with use of solid lubricants or other cooling techniques significantly improves the life of tool and surface quality parameters during turning.
