To Study The Effects of Adding Additives in Lubricants on Their Thermal and Frictional Behaviour
Abstract
It has already been established by many researchers that the conventional engine oils used for lubrication show lower thermal and tribological properties when compared to the advanced lubricants with special additives. Continuous research is still needed to develop better lubricants for coming age vehicles. There are certain characteristics related to thermo-physical and viscoelastic properties of an engine oil lubricant, whose variation over a range of temperature shows that how particular engine oil is behaving. In this research work a new engine oil with multi wall carbon nanotubes additives, which were specially coated with chemicals to improve their dispersion properties, has been used and tested vigorously on various set ups and equipments. It was observed that the thermal and tribological properties improved by a considerable percentage. In coming years such lubricants can replace the conventional ones in market when cost factor is reduced considerably.
