Abstract

In past decades, Radiofrequency identification technology has seen a high rise in its use in various sectors, whether it is in defence, medical, transport, commerce, food quality and quantity inspection etc. Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) is a technology which allows fast, effective and nearly errorless identification of products. Although this technology is present from the years of First World War,but it has been put in extensive use after 1990’s.  RFID being cheap and convenient technologyprovides the advantage of high productivity, high revenues, short processes and easy mobility. RFID technology now has become an indispensible part of supply chain works.  In this paper, a comprehensive review has been done that how this technology has evolved over the years and the impact it will have in the upcoming future. The comparison of RFID with other similarwireless identification technologies has also been carried out with Near Field Communication (NFC), Barcode Scanning and Bluetooth low energy (BLE) technology.
