Abstract

Some of the most common injuries and diseases as a result of aging are related to bone damage and fractures. Bone tissues have a complicated anatomy and physiology due to which the bones sometimes have trouble healing or heal in a deformed manner. This calls for the need of development in the medical technology specifically in bone tissue engineering. Bone tissue engineering is a field of tissue engineering which provides a method to regenerate bone tissue using the body’s natural healing in combination with biocompatible materials for scaffolding. A scaffold is a material that is biologically compatible and provides support and boosts tissue growth to the damaged bone. This article discusses the various challenges and limitations of such a material and reviews the various strategies and research done in the field of tissue engineering for bone regeneration which could be an enormous breakthrough in the field of medical science.
