Abstract

This work’s objective is to give a brief insight into the various mathematical solid particle erosion wear models developed over the years. Erosion wear models can predict a materials response to an erosive environment and can figure out the material expulsion rate from the surface of a material. It features some key points of interest and methods utilized by creators to learn disintegration wear rates and gives examples of present day approaches to wear measurement for engineering samples. A lot of material properties and impact properties of the erodent particles are considered by researchers to determine the rate of erosion. Different investigators developed different erosion wear models based on various parameters of erosion. The purpose of this paper is to study these models and the parameters explored by the investigators. The mathematical models are broadly classified depending upon the mechanism of erosion chosen by the researchers to develop the model based on the material behaviour towards the impact of solid particles. The erosion can be ductile erosion, brittle erosion and a combination of ductile and brittle erosion. Models developed for multiphase materials are also discussed.
