Abstract

The ventilator assistance has been in place sincebiblical times. Mechanical ventilators with negative-pressure ventilationstarted in 1800s. Positive-pressure ventilators came into existence somewhat in the year 1900 and presently used ventilator got developed aftermid 1940s. There have been in existence,4 distinct generations of ventilators, from the original 1940s until today, each generation having features different from the previous one. This evolution of the design provided a bigger picture for the coming times. ICU ventilators that are used presently got developed on the ability able to fuse with other state of the art technology at the coping up with patient’s bedside, hence being able to effectively ventilate them in all settings, invasively and noninvasively, along with introduction of managementprotocols for basic operation of ventilator with data presented in an organized manner contrasting the rows of unrelated data. Other than this, it also aspires for smarter alarm systems and closed-loop control on most of the characteristics of the ventilator support together with the availability of decision support.
