Abstract

Soil properties change a lot and development of structures relies a great deal upon the bearing capacity of the soil, henceforth, we have to stabilise the soil. This paper mainly includes the study of strength parameters of clayey soil with the industrial and agricultural waste i.e. marble dust and paddy straw respectively.Utilizing these waste materials not only reduce the pollution but will also reduce the human dependability on the natural resources, thus leading to a more sustainable approach of construction. In this study, effects of adding paddy straw and marble dust on soil strength characteristics are studied for clayey soil. In this study, marble dust was used to replace soil in varied rates i.e. 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%. Thereafter, the paddy straw fiber was mixed with the optimum soil marble dust mix in varied percentages i.e. 0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%,1% and lengths i.e. 25mm, 50mm, 75mm. Various tests were performedto find the effect of marble dust and paddy straw fiber on MDD, OMC, CBR and UCS of the 17 different types of  soil mix. The UCS and CBR value of clayey soil was improved on addition of marble dust and paddy straw. It was analyzed from the experiments results that optimum values of CBR and UCS are achieved at 74.25% soil, 25% marble dust and 0.75% paddy straw fiber.
