Abstract

Geogrid and fibers of diverse material can be used to recuperate the bearing capacity of sand.Experts have usedgeosynthetics materials to improve bearing capacity of soil. Due to high tensilestrength, fibers/strips elevate the soil strength by mobilizing tensile resistance in the fibers. The main consideration of this study is to find out ways to work on plastic waste along with Geogrid for strength improvement having aspect reinforcing material ratio 3 with cohesion less soil. The use of plastic waste is reliable as its disposal is a serious issue. When load settlement tests were conducted on sand it was found that optimum depth of first and second Geogrid layer from bottom of footing should be at 0.5 B and 0.7B respectively, where B is the width of footing and increase in bearing capacity was observed to be 100% for first layer and 280% when both layers were introduced. A sandwich of plastic strips (1%) between geogrid layers was introduced giving about 450% increase in bearing capacity. A substantial improvement in load settlement behavior has been observed with the introduction of plastic strips sandwiched between geogrid layers.
