Efficiency of GGBFS Based Concrete in Various Curing Regimes
Abstract
The utilization of re using industry waste as supplementary cementious material is world widely accepted. In the present study, utilization of GGBFS (waste slag from iron industry) in concrete specimen as partial replaced with cement (30%, 50% and 70%) is studied. This paper is an effort to understand best curing regime for GGBFS based concrete out of water curing (hot condition), wet burlap curing and sealed plastic sheet curing (both in hot and humid condition). The evaluation is done on the basis of workability, compressive strength and initial surface adsorption test. Results indicates that higher content of GGBF slag strength is sensitive to higher temperature. Water curing appears to be best possible curing approach out of other two alternatives taken in the study. The optimum value of GGBFS is obtained at 50% for later curing periods as GGBFS has slower heat of hydration process.
