Abstract

This paper presents the basis of the reduction of the various parameter which affects the post-performance of box culvert like shear force, Bending moment deflection, and stresses. Box culverts are cross drainage structures that are provided across streams and other watercourses. In this paper, the box culvert is analysed under IRC loading conditions and soil conditions are also taken under consideration and focus is to assist over maximum bending moments, Shear forces, Deflection, and Stresses. An approach is applied in the box culvert to reduce the above parameters so that to achieve an optimal shape of a box culvert for better performance and long life. In this paper, a suitable box culvert is adopted and then it is analysed under several conditions, after that the flared portion is mildly changed with some trial shapes and reanalysis is performed to enhance post-performance and then the final result is compared with the unmodified culvert. In this paper, the software analysis is carried out and then it is compared with manual calculations.
