Abstract

This study deals with the optimized platoon size for a particular stretch of Himalayan marg Chandigarh i.e., section between sector 22 and 17 (30.73200 N, 76.77260 E). The base of this study is Robertson’s platoon dispersion model. Further this is carried to find out optimized size PCU/cycle for the section using green time approach of signal time. Various parameters such as road stretch, platoon size, number of platoon, number of lanes and collaborated emerging and diverged vehicle volume is consider during flow, which ultimately help in getting a significant number of vehicle per cycle foe efficient travel time and effective flow.

This study is helpful for maintaining traffic flow and visualizing overall traffic movement in area. It will also be beneficial for generation of optimized cycle time for the various intersections.
