Abstract

Water is one of the important natural resources present on Earth. Increasing population and industrial growth is causing the natural water quality to be deteriorated. Water from different industries is disposed off into natural water bodies or in land without adequate treatment.Various technologies have been developed for waste water treatment. Recent advancement in waste water treatment technology includes Moving Bed Bio-Film Reactor (MBBR). It allows the microbial degradation of organic matter present in waste water and to create a bio-film on the surface ofmedia provided for the microbial attachment. It remains in moving condition in the biological reactor of waste water treatment. The application of this technology is increasing worldwide for the treatment of municipal and industrial waste water. Various studies show that MBBR was found to be a very efficient technique in the removal of organic pollutants from waste water. In present study, lab scale model was designed to analyze the sewage treatment efficiency of MBBR reactor. Suitable media was used to provide growth surface for microbial culture. It was found that MBBR process is effective in removal of BOD of the Sewage.
